Decorating an Easter table: Choosing a Theme or Colour Scheme

Decorating a table for an important family event can be rather daunting, therefor the best thing to do is to simplify the process by sticking to one theme. By choosing one central theme your table will look cohesive. Your theme could be anything, from spring plants and flowers, to neutral wood tones. You could choose a colour theme, so match your tablecloth with your napkins. Try matching the centrepiece, which could be flowers, with the linens you use on the table. What comes to mind when you think of spring? Perhaps animals, daffodils, pastel tones etc. Once you have decided on your theme you can build your table around the idea.

Tablecloth and Dinnerware

Once you have decided on your theme, start with a beautiful base. The table is your canvas, and this is the opportunity to showcase the centrepiece, you could have a full tablecloth, a runner or even a bare table. Easter is a great opportunity to get the seasonal dinnerware out of the cupboard. Flowery plates can give a jovial and spring touch, while plain white leave space to showcase a colourful centrepiece.

Centrepiece and Flowers

Now let’s get to the centrepiece! The size and type of centre piece will depend on the style of your gathering. Are we dining al fresco? Is it a formal event or are you wanting to create a more casual family vibe? One option could be a simple glass vase filled with seasonal blooms such as daffodils, tulips or buttercups. Another idea is to create a few smaller decorations for the table, these could be bunnies or even decorated eggs placed around the table between foliage from the garden.

Place Cards and Napkins

The place cards are the perfect opportunity to make your guests feel special. This is the time to get creative with whatever crafty things you may have to hand. One idea is to make place cards fashioned from old corks. Simply cut a small slit into each cork and tuck in a calligraphed card with your loved one’s name on it. Another idea would be to weave flowers or fragrant herbs such as rosemary though paper and place on each plate for a beautiful spring touch. How above and beyond you decide to go with this is up to you and what kind of dinner experience you want to create. Napkins could be matched with the centrepiece or tablecloth in order to create a cohesive look and are an excellent opportunity to tie in colours and textures.

Other Easter Table Decoration Ideas

Candles or tea lights dotted around the table is a fantastic way to create an intimate setting for your guests. Alternatively, we know that children would appreciate getting involved with the décor. Why not place a pot of colourful pens as the centrepiece for the children’s table and give each child an egg to decorate that they can each take home and treasure? Or you could pre make these delicious Chocolate Easter Eggs: and let the children decorate them themselves for dessert. These eggs look very impressive and you can even fill each one with sweets before sealing the two halves and give one to each of your guests. They are simple to make using the Kenwood Cooking Chef XL.
